My Support

Mother, brother & sister – My family supports me daily through instruction and encouragement.  We discuss child development, marriage, financial situations, and other personal matters.  Speaking to my family members on daily basis helps me to alleviate stress and look at other situations from a different perspective.  They are also helpful when making decisions.  It would be very difficult for me to live without this portion of my support system.  I have had this support system my entire life.  I would struggle emotionally if this portion of my support system was not available.

My husband – My husband is my best friend.  He is my biggest and most honest cheerleader in life.  He supports and encourages me through school, motherhood, and any other endeavors.  He prays for me, reads with me, and will let me know when I am wrong.  He is truly a benefit in my life.  He supports me emotionally, physically, and financially.  We operate as a team in everything we do.  I would be extremely difficult to operate without my husband.  Without his support, I would have to quit most of the activities I am involved in.  My financial status would change and a portion of my emotional support would be gone.
My church – My church family is very supportive to me and my biological family.  They provide me with community contacts, spiritual support, and advice.  Due to everyone being close, physically and emotionally, I am able to speak with at least 3 members weekly.  They have a huge impact on our lives.  Members have supported us physically, by watching our son.  We have received spiritual support through prayers.  Lastly, we have received emotional support while being in the hospital and during recovery.  Without the support of my church, it would be difficult.  The community impact and my personal development would be altered.

After reading this week’s assignment, I thought about the possibility of having a child that has cancer.  I commend the many families that give and do all they can for their sick child.  It takes a strong individual to endure the treatments and information they encounter.
Depending on the severity of the cancer, I would need the following support
·         help from the nursing staff and physicians – helping with medical needs
·         social worker for schooling and governmental assistance – help with education and insurance.

  • Spiritual support from my church
  • Support from my co-workers – sharing responsibilities and understanding my absences
  • Support for my child: Camp Happy Days – nonprofit organization that helps children and families cope with cancer.

Each of my support units would still be there for me.  I have no doubt regarding the support and love that I would receive.  The benefits of the supportive people would mainly be emotional, physical, and spiritual.  They could sit and talk with me to discuss my stress factors and complications.  Each individual would be able to support physically in a variety of ways cooking, cleaning, transportation, ect.  I couldn’t imagine not having the support systems to help me through a situation like that.  It would make life very difficult and stressful to not have the support as listed above.
